Original Fiction Drabbles - Week Five
True Bravery – August 24th, 2012 [Christopher Larkin, Yukio Katsukawa]
Chris’s never been all that good at being brave for himself. He can’t stand up for himself even when he knows he should, because his fear that it might do more harm than good is pervasive.
Then he all but trips over Yu on the street.
Impossibly, the teen doesn’t speak a word of English, and he’s obviously terrified, even of someone as nonthreatening as Chris.
Suddenly Chris finds it easier to be brave when it’s for someone else. He wants to protect Yu more than he’s ever wanted to do anything else, and somehow he feels stronger for it.
Love is Blind – August 25th, 2012 [Jacob Knight/Alex MacKinzey]
Not too many blind people come into Alex’s shop. Mostly, because it’s a mechanic’s shop and he’s pretty sure that it’s illegal to drive if you can’t see the road.
So when the pretty young man with dark hair and amber eyes taps his way inside, he’s definitely more than a little confused.
Still, he can’t help the faint grin that curves up his lips when the man’s nose wrinkles a little at the obvious smell of grease and fuel and he sighs.
“This isn’t the bakery… is it?”
“Not exactly…” Alex replies, but he kind of wishes it was.
One Small Touch – August 26th, 2012 [Shizuka Inoue, Yukio Katsukawa]
“I’m so… so sorry…”
Zuka’s sure he could apologize until he was blue in the face and he’d never be able to express how sorry he really was.
He’s usually good at reading people, but even he couldn’t have guessed just how broken the other man was, nor could have known just how much one small touch could hurt him.
Now, crouched down by Yu as he curls up defensively like he’s willing himself to disappear, Zuka wonders what the hell he can do for the poor boy, when he can’t even hold him or make his pain go away.
Secrets – August 27th, 2012 [Daiki Ishizawa, Yukio Katsukawa]
Long blonde hair, legs for miles… Jessica was exactly Daiki’s type. Well, if he’d had a type. Everyone knew Daiki’d sleep with any girl who was willing, and what most of them didn’t know, was that he’d sleep with almost any guy too.
Jessica was a challenge, her shyness and obvious reluctance to talk to anyone – let alone return any advances – made Daiki want her even more.
Leading her out behind the gym during lunch so she could relax, Daiki got a response he definitely hadn’t been expecting to his request for a date.
“I’m n-not really a g-girl, D-Daiki-kun…”
Decaf Is a Dirty Word – August 28th, 2012 [Carter Valentine/Alex MacKinzey]
“Darling… what are you still doing up, it’s nearly three…”
Coming up behind the other man, Carter draped himself over broad shoulders and kissed Alex’s cheek softly.
Blinking aching eyes, Alex lifted one hand from the keyboard to give Carter’s arm a gentle squeeze. “Sorry… I’m just doing some research for a case. I had too much coffee at work and I couldn’t sleep, so I figured I’d do something useful with my time…”
Smirking, Carter straightened just enough to settle his palms on Alex’s shoulders, massaging tense muscles. “If you come to bed… I’ll give you something to do.”
Falling Through the Cracks – August 29th, 2012 [Ryo Nishikido, Alliance Jinks]
No one notices them. No one ever does. They’re like shadows as they curl up in the corner of the hospital waiting room, leaning on each other.
Allie’s been sick for a while now, and Ryo’s starting to panic. He knows that it’s probably because he can’t steal more than scraps – rarely anything fresh or nutritious – and that their living space is less than a hovel.
Holding tight to the smaller boy, Ryo pets Allie’s grungy hair, murmuring nonsense in his ear as he tries to ignore how hot the other boy’s skin is.
And still no one notices them.
Blood Vengeance – August 30th, 2012 [Kioshi Katsukawa, implied Shizuka Inoue/Yukio Katsukawa]
“How dare you show your face,” Zuka hissed, voice tight and full of rage that he’d never felt before.
The anger he felt right then consumed him, and he had to fight not to reach up and squeeze his hand around Kioshi’s neck, because it would be so easy and it scared him a little that he could even think such a thing.
Still, the sight of Yu’s brother standing here on their porch like he had a goddamn right was enough to push him over that edge of human decency and into a dark pit of rage and violence.
