So I'm back into the swing of drabbling again, which is nice, it gives me a chance to write every day without that pressure of having to write a lot.

Lots of two-parters today, which isn't usually my thing!

Handle With Care: Part 1 – January 26th, 2012 [Alliance Jinks, Reika Larkin]

Reika’s heart aches as she gently washes the small boy’s matted dark hair, murmuring soft reassurances to him as he hunches tiny shoulders and curls into himself in hot water that’s quickly turning black with grime.

It’s obvious that he’s been on the streets for a long, long while, and that thought is enough to have her eyes stinging with fresh tears, because he looks to be barely twelve, if that.

He hasn’t said much since they’d brought him home, though she knows his name is Allie, and it hurts her to think what he might have already suffered through.

Handle With Care: Part 2 – January 27th, 2012 [Alliance Jinks, Christopher Larkin]

Allie’s taken a shine to him, but he can’t mind. For the first time in his life Chris feels the need to protect someone, even if he’s weak and never been able to even protect himself.

Allie’s different.

Chris can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to have been on the streets so young, so when Allie sucks his thumb and snuggles close to him, it’s only too easy to shyly ask if he wants him to read to him.

When Allie responds with a stuttered request for the Pokey Puppy, Chris feels like he’s finally done something right.

Long Distance Calls – January 28th, 2013 [Ryo-kitty, Reika Larkin, Chris Larkin, Anthony Larkin]

“How on earth can the phone bill be £364?”

Reika looked between her husband and her son, knowing that she didn’t use the phone that often for her job that it would rack the bill up that high.

Chris shook his head. “You know I don’t talk on the phone much…”

A sudden clatter had them all looking over at the nearby phone, and their new tiny black kitten who’d just knocked the receiver off the hook before trodding across the keypad and jumping to the ground.

Muted ringing sounded from the receiver, and Reika let out a startled laugh.

Rescue – January 29th, 2012 [Cillian Catherwood/Carter Valentine]

Carter’s hand is warm in his, and he trusts the older man to lead as he walks, the blindfold covering his eyes making him nervous.

“Ready?”

Nodding as they step through a doorway, Cillian blinks in order to adjust his eyes when the blindfold comes off and he can see again.

They’re in front of a long counter, and sitting on top of it is a tiny wobbly little kitten.

He’s not sure if what he thinks is happening really is, and turns big blue eyes towards his lover, the question he doesn’t need to ask shining in their depths.

Rescue: Part 2 – January 30th, 2012 [Cillian Catherwood/Carter Valentine]

It’s easy to see why Carter picked Molly for him as he holds the tiny kitten close in gentle hands.

No purr emits from her throat despite the contented way she cuddles against him, rubbing her soft little head against his hands. He can’t help but tear up a little though, thinking that someone could hurt such a beautiful creature and then abandon her, but at the same time, he’s grateful that she was a fighter.

“I knew you’d love her,” Carter says as he reaches out to wipe away Cillian’s tears, still hating to see the younger man cry.

A Different Kind of Valentine’s Day: Part 1 – January 31st, 2013 [Carter Valentine/James Landon]

A small heart shaped box greets Carter from his workstation table when he comes in in the morning.

He’s stopped in his tracks for a moment, coffee and bag in his hands as his mouth curls up a little bit in disgust, because he knows exactly what day it is.

Still, he sets his bag and cup down and picks up the plain looking box, unsure about whether or not he wants to open it. He’s been careful about not being overly flirtatious with his co-workers since being with James, and he just hopes someone hasn’t gotten the wrong impression.

“You are such an asshole, you know that?”

James laughs a little at the grumpy voice of his lover across the line, and leans back in his chair a little, grinning as he thinks about what he did in an attempt to make Carter feel a little bit better about today’s holiday.

“I take it you got my gift.”

“I can’t believe that you put that on my desk,” Carter exclaimed, struggling to keep his voice down, small red box now hidden in his bag.

“I’ll put it on you later,” James replies softly, mouth curving into a wicked grin.
