Original Fiction Drabbles - Week Eleven

Seeking Permission – October 5th, 2012 [Reika Larkin, Alex MacKinzey]

Reika’s never seen her son’s boyfriend (can you even call them a boyfriend when they’re nearly a decade older than your son?) look like this before.

Alex’s normally warm brown eyes are cold and hard and there’s an angry set to his jaw that would have had her feeling fear if she thought these emotions were directed towards her.

Instead she knows just why Alex is so angry, and how she can help him.

“Don’t kill him. Chris won’t want someone dying because of him.”

It’ll be a hard promise to keep, but Alex nods. He’d do anything for Chris.


Missing – October 6th, 2012 [Ford Wentham, Makoto Nanami]

“Boss… Ford’s sitting on the bottom of the stairs… I think he fell again.”

Frowning at his underling’s words, Makoto nods and dismisses him, waiting a moment before leaving his office and moving to sit on the bottom step next to Ford. The other man had come to him after being mutilated by an ex-lover, his rather unusual cat ears and tail being the reason.

His tail is gone now, amputated after it had been cut off by said lover, and Makoto knows Ford’s still adjusting to the loss.

“You’ll get used to it…” he says softly, hoping he’s right.


Second Chances – October 7th, 2012 [Ryo Maeda, Christopher Larkin]

“So I um… I sent you some stuff…”

Chris tries not to grin at how shy and awkward Ryo looks, scuffing the toe of his shoe against the pavement. After everything the other boy put him through, he’s not going to make this easy for him, even if Ryo has been trying to make it up to him.

“I know. I got them.”

His stutter’s almost gone. It only comes out when he’s nervous, and while he’s apprehensive about this not-date with Ryo, he’s not really nervous.

He forgave Ryo a long time ago. He just hasn’t told him yet.


Lost In Translation – October 8th, 2012 [Shayden Hashimoto/Nozomu Ito]

Learning English has been hard for him. He’s always been good with music, with notes and composing, but he’s never been all that good with learning, and a new language is even harder than most things.

He fumbles for the right words, the right order, and the right time. He feels like he’s constantly saying all the wrong things.

Shay never laughs at him, and that keeps him going.

The other man gently corrects him when he’s wrong, but it never feels like he’s being made fun of, or that Shay thinks he’s stupid.

That’s how he falls in love.


Skewing the Odds – October 9th, 2012 [Makoto Nanami, Alliance Jinks]

This flat is everything Allie wants. More than that, this flat is home, and Makoto can see it in the way he drifts from room to room, small fingers touching every doorknob and window sill.

When the landlady names the monthly rent, he can all but see the way Allie’s face crumples in utter disappointment. It’s way too much.

“Can I speak to you for a second?”

He pulls the woman into the kitchen, leaving Allie looking forlorn, though hopefully not for long. He doesn’t care what strings he has to pull – he’s going to make this place Allie’s home.


Unexpected – October 19th, 2012 [Carter Valentine/Yukio Katsukawa]

The first time he comes to the club, it’s with some guys from work. They laugh at him because he’s got notes spread out on the table and a pen in one hand. He rolls his eyes, but allows himself a break to watch some of the dancers, surprised by one that catches his eye.

The second time he comes to the club, he leaves his work behind, and spends money he has because he doesn’t do much else but work.

The third time he comes to the club, he thinks he’s in love, and he knows he’s an idiot.


Unprepared – October 10th, 2012 [Carter Valentine/Yukio Katsukawa]

He has no right, but Carter still wants to take Yu away from all this, and he can afford to do it.

He just doesn’t know how to approach Yu about it. Even he can see that someone like Yu isn’t meant to be a stripper, but the man is a strange combination of fragility and strength, and he isn’t sure he’ll agree to being ‘rescued’ by someone he barely knows.

Carter feels stupid for doing it, but he finds himself writing down convincing arguments, crumpling them up when they sound worse on paper than they do in his head.

Crap I forgot about drabble day... fail!

1. At first I was like "Wtf Reika and Alex..." and then I remembered. >.> Aw, Alex, such a sweet tough guy.
